Hi Walter,

          I use a LIGHTFAX 1414LC 14.4k modem and am very impressed with
it. I live in the country and I suspect pigeons have a supply contract with
Telstra ( ..... hey how else do you explain what happens to the
signal???????).

          Despite line problems this modem seems to handle the conditions
quite well. Far better than other modems I borrowed to try in this
location.

          Presuming their 28.8 is of similar construction then I feel you
ought to see if you can try one out in your location first. You may find it
to be a good quality item.
