Subject: Re: Non-Government SW radio
SCOTT CHRISTENSON TYPED: Yikes! Did you catch the originators of this
"stuff?" And do you have any exact frequencies and times.
MIKE SPRAGUE SAYS: The one where I heard the offensive lecture is 3210 kHz
-- The call-letter identification is WWCR. Tennessee is also given as a
location although I can't recall whether this is for the studio, transmitter
or both. Because my DX-375 uses a loopstick when tuned to this frequency, I
am able to determine that the transmitter is somewhere along an almost
directly east-west line from Pittsburgh. I have also heard these broadcasts
on my FRG-7 at 2310 kHz but a don't know wheter this is an artifact of the
receiver, a subharmonic, or another broadcast frequency. I suspect one of
the first two because at 1000 UTC they typically announce that they are
changing to a frequency near the 21 meter band. This might mean that they
have only one transmitter.
I will leave it to you to listen, if you are interested, and figure who might
be behind it all. I have heard individual voices profess several different
organized Christian religions but have heard no evidence that any particular
organized religion stands behind the broadcasts. I am beginning to suspect
that the speakers are trying gain credibility by throwing in words like
Catholic, Methodist, and Baptist.
SCOTT ALSO TYPED: Isn't technology wonderful? I remember when 1200 was fast
and 2400 was "blistering".
MIKE RESPONDS: I am of an age that I recall an ASR-33 teletype machine as
being super science.
