(As reported in the 9/15 Greensboro News & Record)
Reidsville (N.C.) High School has almost eliminated its
previously-severe problems with students using drugs and smoking in
restrooms and vandalizing them by padlocking the restrooms.
In order to use the restroom during class,
students must ask their teacher for the
key.
During class change, teachers unlock 8 of the
school's 14 restrooms so that they can
be monitored.
Principal Eddy Daniel credits the policy with ending
previously-severe problems with student loitering in restrooms.
The superintendent has supported Daniels' policy. The police
officer stationed at the school says the policy has virtually
ended drug use in restrooms.
