subject: USR Courier V34 probl

TR> Yep, definitely sounds like a poor V32bis implementation on the Supra.

RS> You might care to try to explain why, if the Supra is at fault,
RS> why that problem is never seen when a USR Sportster V34 is called.

BG> And YOU might care to try explaining why the
BG> Supra is apparently the ONLY V.32bis modem to
BG> exhibit this peculiar behaviour when calling a Courier...

DD> Didn't Paul have to disable V.32ter on
DD> the Spirit so Rod could connect to it too?

BG> Yep.

Nope.

DD> It seems like the V.32bis tones on the Supra sound a
DD> bit like V.32ter tones to those that recognise them . . .

BG> It would certainly appear that something peculiar
BG> to the Supra's negotiation sequence is tricking the
BG> Courier into thinking it has a V.32terbo caller,

That doesnt explain why it gets an absolutely perfect 14400 connect
EVERY SINGLE TIME, and the Courier as second or so LATER goes nuts
and demands a full retrain. Really rather bizarre behaviour.

And since it isnt seen with the Sportster, it seems pretty clear its some
wart in the Courier, which isnt that surprising given that V32terbo is a
kludge anyway. Its not news that that sort of kludge can bite the with
the very big range of V32bis modems already in the field when its added.
