SB>JA> Windows has DISADVANTAGES (All of them are NOT Listed here):
SB>
SB>JA> 1. Windows is VERY INEFFICIENT ("Gobbles" up TOO MUCH MEMORY).
SB>
SB>consideration is the fact that Windows allows you to use more
SB>than one program at the same time. If all you do is play
I agree with you on that. If you are in the habit of opening more
that one Application at a time, Windows is the platform.
SB> For instance, when I program under OS/2, I have the
SB>following programs active: a text editor (EPM), a compiler (Watcom
SB>or EMX), a resource editor (Guidelines), as well as a few online
SB>books (references to OS/2 API). Sure, I could work in a
I program for Dos in Assembly using Masm Assembler. I am not familiar
with Watcom or EMX. What Language do you Progam in?
BTW, I did not mean to Post that Message in the Windows OS/2 Conference,
It was an Accident (Nothing against OS/2).
SB>memory configuration. Once you've figured out how to create an
SB>environment where all your memory is EMS, all XMS, or half and
SB>half, then you can create multiple boot floppies, or program
SB>DOS v6.0 in multi-config mode. But getting there is no simple
SB>task.
I agree. So far, I have not developed anything that needs all that
overhead. My biggest Progamming Project was on a Commodore 64 years
ago.
SB> You may feel that life is easier in DOS, but if you do not
SB>use Windows, or any other multitasking environment, you're missing
I do use Windows (3.1). There are some Very Good Programs that use
the Windows Platform (Only). If I want to use them, I have to use
Windows.
Thanks for all your Comments
