(This is from Carol:)
Yoo Hoo, EchoEars!
Rich, Michael and I have high ratings for the character breakfast offered
by the new version of Chef Mickey's, relocated to the Contemporary Resort
concourse from Disney Village Marketplace. It is on the resorts Monorail
line, the first stop after leaving Magic Kingdom, or it is an easy walk
from MK.
The design of the restaurant is fabulous: Graphics of the major Disney
characters on the walls (including Darkwing Duck), theme park and other
Disney music playing on the sound system (including songs from Disney
afternoon). Periodically a party breaks out and the waiters, waitresses
and Disney characters parade while the diners wave their napkins in the
air.
The food includes several types of omelets, eggs, bacon, sausage,
grits, two types of breakfast potatoes, cheese blintzes, oatmeal with
flavorings, French toast and waffles (both excellent), biscuits and
gravy, various breakfast breads and pastries, several types of cereals.
It offers at least what the buffet 1900 Park Faire at the Grand Floridian
does. Goofy is DEFINITELY there, he is stationed in the middle of the
restaurant and you have to go to him, otherwise the characters Mickey,
Minnie, Chip and Dale all take turns coming to your table, and they
do spend several minutes with you if things are not crowded. Cost is
around (gulp!!!) $15.00.
I like Chef Mickey's because the food and atmosphere is so vastly
improved from its days at the Disney Village Marketplace, and the theming
is specifically geared to the Disney Characters vs. whatever the hotel/park
theming is.
Dinner there is also a buffet, with food like pasta and shellfish, same
characters. Please consider Chef Mickey's, we found it VERY enjoyable
(FDC Meecelet and Dale became fast friends, and Meecelet squealed in
delight and chuckled the whole time a character was with him :-) ) and
the food and service were top notch.
