| subject: | Re: Bind9 caching |
Hi Paul,
After more focused and rigorous testing (using current version) I'm
pleased to announce that I find Bind9's caching to be functioning just
fine! :)
There are pretty many incredibly short TTLs out there, revealed by
reversing this sort:
[u:\bind9]queries.cmd |tail -50 |cut -f2 |cut -d" " -f2 |for each in
({at}CON) do dig +noall +answer %each |sort -k2 -n
where queries.cmd is:
grep " IN A " queries.log |cut -d ":" -f 5 |sort |uniq
-c |sort -n
(taking care to use unix 'sort' not the os/2 version)
A similar run on the remote server to which queries are forwarded if
not in cache shows that the frequent queries are indeed for records
with very short TTLs ....
for each in `cat sample |awk '{print $8}' |sort |uniq -c |sort -n |tail
-10 |awk '{print $2}'`; do dig +noall +answer $each; done |sort -k2 -n
