The best approach for self teaching I think is to look at the code for
some simple Pascal programs, and then, set yourself some very trivial
little problems. As you familarize yourself with more and more of the
commands and syntax of the language then you can think up some more
difficult programs, and eventually you get to the stage where you can writ
yourself some fairly substantial programs.

How far are you with the basic stuff? The other thing is, onc you
know on language, you can pick up others really quickly :). I haven't coded
in Pascal for a wee while now, but if your after a few hints, drop me a
buzz, either in this echo or in netmail or in email to

I am now more C/C++ focused though, and would be more equipped to help you
in the C language, but I think for a first language, Pascal is quite good
as it doesn't have many "syntaxy" type things that look weird to
the novice programmer, but to put something on the other side of the
scales, not too much seems to be done in Pascal nowdays, particular with
Mac's continuing to lose market share, although there is a *lot* of
Multi-Media stuff being done in Delphi, which could be probably be almost
dscribed as "Visual Pascal". I.e. like Visual Basic etc only uses
Pascal as the base language.

Craig
