subject: USR Courier V34 problems

BG> Did my Sportster demand a retrain when you called it the other day ?

RS> Nope, only Couriers do, and only when the V32terbo is
RS> enabled. Which does sort of hint at some quirk in the USR
RS> V32terbo code since the Sportster doesnt support that mode.

BG> I wonder if you've bothered trying any other modems at all.
BG> The results would be extremely interesting, to say the least...

RS> Its a bit hard. Most dont even show that they are seeing a retrain
RS> demand from the other end, and its not a trivial matter to get someone
RS> who isnt doesnt know a bit about modems to try it and report back either.

BG> Didn't you originally state that the vast majority of calls
BG> from your Supra to the Courier were failing completely though ?

Nope. The vast majority of calls to a Courier show the RETRAIN being
demanded and the call is fine. And ALWAYS perfect 14400 connects every
time too, and its ONLY the retrain that does occasionally bite. It now
turns out that with lots more calls that it wouldnt even fail with 10% of calls

AND I keep forgetting to tell Paul that with V32terbo disabled in the
Courier, it appears to be perfect every time. His list of Courier problems
says something completely different. I have had just one call in that case
which got a 7200 connect instead, but that could very well have just been
some glitch like the call waiting bips or something.
