| subject: | Considering writing my own BBS software |
Hello.
I'm considering writing my own BBS package from the ground up, and have
decided I need more information in order to interface to the internet, a
serial port, or both at once.
If I wanted just TelNet access, I'd use Java to do this (and deal with
the overhead of interpreting ANSI graphics within)... or C++ once I get
a handle on interfacing with WinSock or some other socket based library
for Borland C++.
I've also considered incorporating a class for serial IO and a class for
Socket IO/streaming into a C++ version... but that would leave
interfacing doorware and external file transfer protocols a bit tricky.
Looking at the FOSSIL solution instead of a Virtual Serial port, this
seems to be a way to go.... but even with the source code I've been able
to obtain, I'm not sure how to interface to a fossil.
If someone could point me to a good example of interfacing to a FOSSIL
driver, I'd be much obliged.
To tell the truth, the idea to write this BBS has existed for better
than 15 years. (my knowledgebase had to be improved... as i was
attempting to learn C on my own... and now with schooling :D )
Thanks in advance for any help given.
