DB> I am not worried about shooting women and children to preserve my food
DB> supply Frank. For one thing, unlike your dead friend, I have another
DB> use- the 300 lbs of oats and corn will probly feed my new filly through
 DB> the winter.
DB> If I and my food stash get found after an economic collapse, it'll be by
DB> some guy with enough weapons and desperation to get here. In any case, I
DB> was born on a farm, got my first gun at 12, and have a lotta experience
DB> with taking life. Not something I enjoy doing, a fool takes pleasure in
DB> it, but a prudent man sees the necessity of it. I don't know any
DB> vegetarians that raise pigs, and if we all were, pigs would become an
 DB> endangered species.
DB> I an not the ordinary wingnut with a Biblical apocalyptic vision.
Neither was my younger friend. In fact, he was almost the exact opposite

a devout Catholic completely loyal to the Church's position of the "Bible"
ONLY within the framework of Church doctrine and practice. The Church as you
know formulated doctrine for the same reason Judaism centered their practice
on the specificity of the written word of the law right down to every "jot
nd
tittle." Apocalyptic in such protective constructs MUST be declared heresy.
Allowing Jimmy Swaggarts into the priesthood of such an establishment would
blow it apart in one generation.
But in some things you do puzzle me, Day. You clearly indicate in some
contexts that you understand that the lifetime of an individual is really an
eyeblink as measured against the experience we have of "lastingness" and yet
you would go to some lengths to store food and guard it with YOUR life
gainst
starving people trying to take it away from you. Surely a few years more or
less cannot mean THAT much. Please don't assume that I'm devaluing the years
we have. I wouldn't be inclined to be suicidal either and might defend
against the taking by SOME of food for me and my family in in any such
nhappy
circumstances.
DB> Perhaps you have already gleaned from our posts that I have tried to
DB> construct a system of values that crosses several boundaries not usually
DB> allowed. Thus we see the businessmen be perfect in their predation, and
DB> perfect in their practice of an altuistic form of religion. I don't
DB> advocate either extreme, and suggest a study of Neitzsche for a fair
 DB> understanding of both.
I have read a little Nietzsche, Day, and I sense that you truly believe
that the murder of God is possible without at the same time murdering man.
Voegelin points out that Nietzsche has mutilated the symbolism of Diogenes
who is in search of [honest] man to produce a "madman" in search of GOD [in
the marketplace where one would expect only to find men]. Don't forget that
Nietzsche by his own admission can assume a "variety of masks."
Sincerely,
                                     Frank
