From: "Gary Britt"
No that isn't at all what I wrote. Did you have a problem understanding
the words? It is apparently common in the language used by Iraqis and
Arabs, that you give one pronunciation for one kind of meaning and a
different pronunciation for another kind of meeting. In other words, the
Islamic terrorists who look up to Usama Bin Laden and think he is a great
leader and holy man would themselves pronounce his name Osama. If somebody
who was an Islamic person who thought Usama was a murdering thug would
pronounce his name Usama.
Its not something made up its just a matter of knowing the Arab/Iraqi
language's pronunciation rules and then MAKING A CHOICE. Fox made their
choice and chose Usama. Fox is sure they are on the American side and
Usama Bin Laden is a murdering thug. I don't think Fox's people are more
enlightened on this than Dan Rather's, CBS's, ABC's, NBC's, NYT's, etc., I
believe they know full well that they are using the "with
reverence" form of pronunciation and phonetic spelling when they use
Osama. I believe they have made the choice they don't know if they are on
America's side or not. I also believe they have never informed their own
audiences of these pronunciation rules of which they are fully aware, and
that due to their confusion over whether Usama Bin Laden is a terrorist
murdering thug or a holy man freedom fighter they have chosen to use the
"with reverence" form of pronunciation of his name.
