That's probably true, although from a user's (dunno about sysop's)
perspective the Microcom v.FCs were pretty good.

I don't think I've ever had a split-speed connect with a M34F. It would
be good to have less 26.4k M34F-USR connects people (incl. me) have
complained about and more 28.8/26.4 or 26.4/28.8 connects.
