Subject: Concord grapes gender??
TA>Strangely all three vines produce considerable folliage growth each

TA>but only on vine has produced any fruiting.
It might be an age and nutrition thing. Not all cuttings progress at
the same speed.
TA>I know some fruit trees have male and female genders. Do common grape
TA>vines also gender? Is it likely cuttingsfrom a fruit producing vine
TA>would have diverse gender?
Highly unlikely, Ack. Cuttings have the same DNA as their mother
stock. The two possibilities that might explain this discrepancy
(other than tincture of time) are - you accidentally rooted a sport,
which can produce differently from the other branches of that
particular vine. Or, a different grape vine had taken root among the
other one's twisty branches, and you took cuttings from it, rather
than the one you wanted.
However, most grape vines have both male and female flowers; so
eventually you will get fruit from all the vines, provided good grape
management is practiced. Don't do anything hasty! :-)
