Given the choice that you enumerated above between stupidity and
conspiracy, I'll bet on stupidity every time. 

As regards who should be allowed to run your country, I wouldn't pick
either of the top two candidates. Your media isn't giving enough exposure
to the others, and I don't care enough (I don't have a vote) to spend a lot
of time ferreting around. I just think it's ironic that a country which
bases its very foundation on being free and democratic is being poorly
served by its present electoral system yet is apparently powerless to do
anything about it. Your electoral college system made sense back when it
took weeks to cross the country but is a hopeless anachronism today.
