G'day Michael!

MC> Anyone been able to get a manual from Netcomm for the M34F?

Sure, no problemo. Paper *and* electronic.

MC> I rang them and they wanted to charge me $30.

SmartModems owners get their manual for FREE, AutoModem and Roadster owners

have to pay $30 for the manual.

MC> I pointed out that this was a top of the line modem and charging extra

 MC> for a manual really wasn't on.

SmartModem owners need only indicate that they want a manual on their

warranty card and return it to NetComm. The manual is definitely FREE!

MC> At this the service person relented and offered to send it to me for

 MC> just $10 (cost of a courier).

This "service person" you spoke to needs a good hard kick up the bum!

MC> I asked her to please send it via normal post. She refused.

Yeah, they courier everything. They probably get a special deal on insurance

for damage in transit.

MC> She did tell me to log onto their Sydney BBS and download the electronic

 MC> version of the manual.

Easily obtainable but a bit out of date. The most up to date command info

can be obtained by typing "AT?" (no quotes) to invoke the M34F's
Interactive

Command Help.

MC> I also sent back my rego card requesting all the various books/manuals

MC> that I could get. They sent me not-a-one. Instead I got a letter saying

MC> "sorry we're all out of everything".

That doesn't release them from their responsibility to send you the manual as

soon as they get more in stock. Ring 1800 642 067 and keep pestering them.

MC> Who thinks this is pretty abysmal service? Fair enough if we were

MC> talking an upgrade and you're sending the modem in the post but, a

 MC> manual?

Perhaps the person you spoke to was new or just plain stupid. NetComm

SmartModems come with a 5 year warranty, FREE manuals on request, and most

postage (from NetComm) - manuals, modem service, etc. - is by courier, paid

for by them.
