Bush is an idiot, even Americans can see that. That being said though, our
government has been rediculously lax in national security matters for many
years. They try band-aid measures like public video cameras and identity
cards that will do no good to prevent terrorists from hiding here, and will
erode Canadian civil liberties. Meanwhile, anyone can file for refugee
status and is allowed to roam freely in the country without any in-depth
background checks on them being done.

Regular immigration procedures require background checks to be done before
immigration is approved (even those procedures need to be scrutinized), but
refugees are not pre-screened whatsoever. IMO, all refugee claimaints
should be detained until such time as the government has done extensive
background checks into both their identities as well as their claims.

I read recently that Ernst Zundel, notorious for speading hate propoganda
against Jews, is about to be deported to Germany. The question is, why did
Canada let someone like him into the country in the first place?
