Sam Cook was shot in 1964 but that is all I know, no details on the killer.
 
Marvin Gaye is another that comes to mind as being shot by his father.
Marvin had financiel, marital and drug problems and went into a
self-imposed exile to the Belgian seaside resort-town of Ostend where you
could always find him on the beach, staring at the horizon with the western
wind in his face. He befriended many people there and still is popular.
 
The friendship of the people, and the brother of the King who was also in a
sort of self-imposed exile there working as a painter, helped him recover.
It inspired him to write his biggest hit ever "Sexual healing".
His dad being a religious nut found it so distasteful that he murdered his
son April 1st 1984. 3 years later he was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll
Hall of Fame.
