method will determine the validity or lack thereof. Both
of these strike me as requiring a "best guess". No way to
prove or disprove almost ANY conclusion. What good would
the "results" be under those conditions?

I absolutely agree; I further agree that a lot of the
quantitative approaches do not constitute research, but are
simply quantitative "studies"!
