MG> MG>> John Manley, the finance minister announced his decision
Tuesday morning
MG> MG>> in Ottawa. "It is apparent to me that I do not have
the sufficient
MG> MG>> support to win the leadership race in November," he
told a news
MG> MG>> conference. "I have offered the party a choice, and
the party has
MG> MG>> chosen. Paul Martin will be the next leader of the
Liberal Party of
MG> MG>> Canada and the next prime minister of Canada, and I
believe he will be
MG> MG>> an excellent prime minister."

MG> DP> Funny that what suddenly became apparent to him now, was apparent to
MG> DP> pretty much the rest of Canada since before Chretien announced his
MG> DP> retirement. Well, better late than never, I guess, eh?

MG> Unfortunately, I don't feel much is served by a coronation instead of a real
MG> leadership race. I felt Manley if nothing else would have made the race
MG> interesting. His withdrawl has lessened my opinion of him.

I agree - it would have been better to have some real competition for
the top dog spot. However, the sad truth is, there is no leadership
race. If Sheila Copps thinks she stands even a remote chance of getting the
crown, she's truly smoking crack.
