I have now been able to compile 91.9 on my 6.2 FreeBSD system.
This error is now present in the /var/log/message log file, (Still unable to 
register as a new user)

May 28 22:28:13 server mblogin[22666]: unknown user wants to register
May 28 22:28:49 server mblogin[22669]: invalid password for `UNKNOWN' on 
`ttyp1' from `192.168.1.3'

I get to the stage of choosing a "handle" and then disconnected
with the above 
error in the log file.
