"The United States said Tuesday it was opposed to a plan for Qatar to
pay the salaries of thousands of destitute Palestinian teachers on the
grounds it would violate an international financial boycott of the
Hamas-led Palestinian Authority.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice could discuss the issue Wednesday
during a meeting here with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem
bin Jabr al-Thani, her spokesman, Sean McCormack, said.

"We know they made a pledge to pay, and we are talking to them about
all of this and we will follow it up," he told reporters.

The emir of the Gulf state offered over the weekend to pay the salaries of
some 40,000 education ministry employees worth around 22.5 million dollars
per month, the head of the Hamas government, Prime Minister Ismail Haniya,
said Sunday after meeting with the Qatari ruler."

So the US opposes even others paying Palestinian teachers.

Sigh. I mean......read :

"We know they made a pledge to pay, and we are talking to them about
all of this and we will follow it up,"

& consider....it carries on the "you're not really an adult, grown up
state.....now give daddie the cash so he can decide what to do with
it.." which the US has been defaulting to in most of it's relations
with most arab states.

Sigh. Disolve the ME Quartet. It's passed it's sell by date & is
starting to emit more than a whif of partiality.
