I am having with problem with a Cyberdrive 50 pin scsi cdrom when used
with a Tekram DC390U2W PCI controller card.

My problem is this... I previously also had installed in my system an
Adaptec 2940U pci scsi card to which the Cyberdrive cdrom was attached &
it worked perfectly. I recently pulled the Adaptec card from the system
wanting to use it in another system.

So, I took out the Adaptec scsi card and hooked the scsi cdrom to the 50
pin connector on the Tekram card and then booted the machine. The Tekram
card sees the cdrom, OS/2 Warp 4 fixpak 15 sees the cdrom & assigns it a
drive letter.

I can go to an OS/2 command prompt & do a DIR on the cdrom & it does list
the contents of the cdrom, however if I try to do anything else with the
cdrom (such as copy a file to the hard drive from it, or play a music cd,
or play an mp3 file from it) it locks the machine hard forcing me to power
down the machine, wait a few seconds & then power back up.

The tekram card has three devices attached :

scsi id 1 - 68pin u2w lvd Quantum 9GB hard disk drive as sole device on
the u2w channel. Drive is jumpered for termination.

scsi id 2 - Seagate 20GB uw hard disk drive. Drive is the sole device on
the uw channel. Drive is jumpered for termination

scsi id 5 - Cyberdrive cdrom. Drive is the sole device on the narrow
channel. Drive is jumpered for termination.

I have tried putting the adaptec card back in with the cdrom attached to
it & once again things work perfectly well!

I have tried jumpering termination both on, and then off on the cdrom, but
it has no effect on the symptom. ie: it still locks the whole system hard
when trying to use.

I am wondering if there is simply some incompatibility between the
Cyberdrive cdrom & the Tekram scsi card. I can think of nothing else that
might cause this, so if anyone can shed any light on what may be happening
here I would be most appreciative!

Thanks,

Dave.
