It brought back some good old memories of the commodore 64. Wt a gem of a computer!!! I totally agree that people have probably with change and this is reflected by many parents who complain that teaching children to use calculators or master computersIn Australia however I feel our education system has come along way. An internet in most public schools and lessons carried out on many private schools is providing students the opportunity to become literate in many new technologies which will equip them to optimally function in the twenty-first centuryThese are just two examples of the way we are moving. More fundamentally is teacher education in the areas that are changing so quickly. What is worse than educartors teaching children on the basis on the good old commodore 64 when so many technological forms abound. I strongy believe that technology in education is a crucial component for children. By providing children with the understandings and skills in technology , I think that they will grow less resistant to change and not so strongly resist the move from today's computers which tomorrow will be as antiquated as the '64'. Its much more than getting on with life, technology greatly moves life along. I have much more appreciation since a technology teacher education course I have just finished at university and think suh course reflect the move in Australia to equip educators with the knowledge and skills to foster and encourage students' realisation of the many benefits of technology and empower them to optimally use these forms. I would be really interested in the situation in American shools and the techlogy that is being used in elementary shool. I would really appreciate your insights or experiences. Hope to here from you soon...Peta --- FMail 0.94 ---------------> * Origin: VETLink #13 Las Cruces NM (505)523-2811 * Origin: Sydney Education BBS - Sydney University (3:712/628) |
