Hi Carol,
I think it depends if your home business is incorporated or not. I 
assume it is not, and in that case you would need accounting to the 
point that you could could properly fill out Sch C on 1040.
In that case, you could run personal and business in the same database, 
just have business expenses easily identifiable. For example, you could 
an expense category called "Business" with subcategories like 
"supplies", "office expenses", "wages", etc. Use these totals to fill 
out 1040. As to a loan from personal to business, the easiest way to 
this is just transfer the money. Your "net" will be your gross minus 
expenses, and personal loans would not enter into it.
