Yes, diagrams/photos would help here. The word picture gets long, and I
may be misinterpreting it.
You mention that your cell rests on a ball joint. I'd like to see this
arrangement, to see how stiffly the ball joint is coupled to the mirror
box, and whether or not the ball joint rests on a long/thin/cantlivered
place of the mirror box.
