Two comments.
(i) Don't hard code strings at all. Use string resources. Now, you can
either use notepad to code the string resource or you can use a visual
GUI tool to put together the string resource. (Most probably you use
such a tool anyway to code all the other resources.) String resources
are "one liners" in most any case, thus the most primitive editor to
write them will do.
(ii) Search for a tool which allows you to transform OEM text to ANSI
text and vice versa. Borland C++ includes one. If you can't find one, I
have a self penned utility done in Delphi 2, which I'm willing to share.
No documentation though, but it's easy to understand and use.
