Hi Poe,

PL> That's the difference between faxes and data modems; for a
PL> modem, you need it as close to -10dB as possible to get

IS> Except with V.34's intelligent Tx level adjustments to suit the
 IS> line :)

PL> Some say that turning that off and manually using a higher
PL> level works better; perhaps it's just Aust lines. :)

Perhaps. People _are_ getting 33600/33600 connects, with Tx levels around
-12-to -13dBm, if some of the voluminous stats posted here are right,
aren't they?

IS> splatter the neighbours pretty badly .. it's a fair bit too loud
IS> for a local Tx level, even .. can the fax Tx level be adjusted up
IS> that loud on the Courier??

PL> Nope; can't go louder than -10dB for the Austel version,
PL> -9dB in the US version.

For FAX? -13dBm is the recommended max, perhaps another couple of dBm on a
really long loop. Yeah, I guess -10 would be right at maybe 5-10km out ..
I must root through the packing cases and find those fax newsletters.

Cheers, Ian
