I don't know if you're talking about tubes as in amplifiers or switches, but 
many amp tubes are still used. Lots of guitar equiptment uses tubes because 
of their warmer and fuller sound. Some use it just in the preamp (with a 
solid state power amp), but some also have them in the power amp. 
Most of the time, in pa gear or stereo equiptment, they're not used, since 
solid state can keep the same sound without altering it much.
