Mike Sprague writes in a message to Scott Christensen
MS> On a related subject, I am often horrified by the things that
MS> I hear early in the morning (Eastern Time Zone) on the 120
MS> meter international broadcast band and late in the evening
MS> just outside of the 49 meter band. Somebody or some people
MS> are giving air time to some pretty scary fundamental Christian
MS> preachers. It went over the top a couple of weeks ago when
MS> I heard a rant and rave concerning the supposed fact that the
MS> Bible teaches that children should be kept in line by occasional
MS> corporal punishments. Some examples were given -- holding a
MS> hand to the burner on a kitchen range or a back-hand slap.
MS> Now imagine what joy this must give to critics of the USA.
Yikes! Did you catch the originators of this "stuff?" And do you have any
exact frequencies and times. I'd like to hear exactly what is being said,
and by whom. if these nuts are advocating things that could cause real
physical or psychological injury they should be stopped. (I do agree that
(gently) warming a fanny is a time honored tradition to get their attention,
but once is usually enough for a lifetime if you do it right. So I don't see
that as particularly bad - but burners - that's child endangermment and
should be stopped.)
MS> It has been a few years since I have left a post on this echo.
MS> The inclination developed after I got my hands on a computer
MS> that scrolls text fast enough for me to easily skip the long
MS> transcriptions of DX programs and the multiply-posted commercial
MS> advertisements. The monitoring reports from the Mir space station
MS> have been interesting and worthwhile
Isn't technology wonderful? I remember when 1200 was fast and 2400 was
"blistering".
