This Is The Way Things Should Be... A few words regarding my
recent trip to Amsterdam to judge the Ninth Cannabis Cup.
A walk along the canals of Amsterdam leads to the cafe' known as
Global Chillage. I was impressed by the 20-something youth of most
of the habitues, feeling my age just a bit. The total absence of
any furniture makes the place unique. Just clumps of folks sitting
on the floor, mainly along the walls of the deep, but narrowish
space, talking, drinking coffee and juices, smoking great herb. I
went to the bar to get a couple of coffees, while my compa' went to
the other bar to get a 25 guilder($15) bag of something good to
smoke, as we had judging to do. At a small shelf protruding from
the wall near the front door, we twisted, sipped, then toked up.
Another incredibly strong Dutch coffee being met by Dutch herb of
magnitude.
In the free world, this is the way it will be, I thought. This
right to drugs, this inalienable right to my intoxicants, the
simple liberty to grow what I want in my garden, to smoke what I
want in my pipe, is not explicitly enumerated in our Bill of
Rights, yet.
cheers
