G'day John!

JP> Any idea how I can get my modem to stop reporting connects like this:

I think I already sent you a reply to this in AUST_MODEM but what the hell...

 JP> CONNECT 28800/LAP-M/V.42bis/LAPM/V42BIS

JP> and instead report them as CONNECT 28800/LAP-M/V.42bis/V.FC?

If you have "S95=47" change it to "S95=0" as multi-line
CONNECT strings are

rarely needed and tend to confuse most comms and BBS software.

JP> I recently upgraded to the latest SM3200 firmware.

Are you sure you've installed the correct code? The correct 16-bit binary

code file for the M11F is V7V261L.B16 (12:49) and the "ATI4"
command should

respond with... ^

V2.61L Fri Jul 28 11:49:23 1995

                     ~~ ~~

If you have somehow loaded the code for the M34F, Z7V261L.B16 (12:51), the

"ATI4" command would respond with... ^

V2.61L Fri Jul 28 11:51:10 1995

                     ~~ ~~

Does the "ATI9" command respond with something like this?...

Series 5 V.FAST Class 28800 Modem DFS(K)-V7 V2.61L NetComm Ltd. (C) 1995

                                          ^

Also, does the "ATI2" command return "OK"? If not,
time to reload the

firmware.

I used exactly the same setup (S95=47 too) on my M34F to try to duplicate

the problem but all I got was the proper response...

atdl

RINGING

CARRIER 28800

PROTOCOL: LAP-M

COMPRESSION: V.42BIS

CONNECT 28800/LAP-M/V.42bis/V.FC

All I can suggest is that you ensure that you have the correct firmware code

file and reload it by following this procedure...

 - ensure you are at the DOS prompt with no programs running, especially

   *NO* multi-taskers

 - switch the modem OFF

 - switch the modem ON while pressing the MODE button on the front panel

 - release the MODE button after the two beeps have sounded

 - load the firmware code with the following command line:

   LOAD /F=V7V261L.B16 /P=COM2 /C=19200

   Notes: 1 COM2 assumed

2 19200 bps is slow but sure

 - after the firmware has loaded properly you should hear two beeps

 - run a terminal program

 - type "AT&F." (no quotes) to initialise the modem

 - check if "ATI2" returns "OK" response

 - configure the modem to your preferences

If the modem still doesn't return the proper CONNECT string, ring NetComm

Support on 1800 642 067 and see if they can offer any other suggestions or

solutions. Good luck.
