subject: Election Coming..when?

Hello Perry;

-=> Quoting Perry Smith to Peter Coggon <=-

PC> When the title reads "RE: Election Coming" ...it seems
PC> that it has changed to a flame on me for not wanting to vote
PC> period. Again, that is my decision, and if I can not come
PC> to grips with anyone representing my interests, then why bother?

PS> First of all you shouldn't interpret my disagreeing with your views as
PS> a flame. I don't interpret your disagreeing with me that way anyway.

When I mention flame, it is in my decision to "choose" to vote or not
to vote. Whether you argee with me or not, all I ask is that we keep
to the topic which is elections and voting...and if you vote GREAT
and if I don't vote ..whatever. I do Perry accept your opinion
but perhaps not the idea that by voting I will have a say or have a
say in the running of this country. Platforms are set in party HQ
and thats that! You have to be a member to help set a platform
and I do not belong to or want to belong to any political party.

PS> I can't change your opinion about voting but I still think it is the
PS> only way that we can voice our opinion, other than in Fidonet echo
PS> that nobody reads or takes seriously if they do.

I used to vote, but then a few years ago, things started to show me
what I feel today, and just how dirty politics is, and how really
dishonest it is, and I have decided to abstain from the democratic
process, allowing those who still have beliefs carryon.

Perry, I care not what anyone else thinks or writes about us and our
conversation. If they don't read or take serious then why should we
care. I find it serious that I have joined the ranks of non-voters.
If everyone did this, then what would happen?

I would love to have a candidate that I could vote for...a platform
to support and a national leader to follow, but so far in the passed
few years I have been really disappointed.

PS> I mentionned that I live in solid Liberal riding but that doesn't stop
PS> me from marking my "X" and walking away from the polls
believing that I
PS> just did something that counted.

Me too!!! I did that until I started keeping count of the partys and
a score on them through the years. I like you wanted my "X" to count
for something...I marked and walked away and felt betrayed...So now I
couldn't care less.

PS> On another note, what is the percentage of Canadians who actually get
PS> out to vote? Not bloody high so whoever gets in, gets in by the will
PS> of the majority of the minority.

I guess thats why in Rules of order they have a minium number to allow
a meeting to proceed....thus the minority voting...votes in whomever
that will govern a country made up of malcontents like me.
That is scarey! Ron McCart send me a msg that 60.05% voted last time
so that at least is a majority of something out of 30million cannucks
that have the right to vote.

PS> You are definitely in with the majority of Canadians.
 PS> Perry

No..I was corrected by Rob. I thought it was ...but was wrong.
60.5% voted. Which is better then I thought.

If you noted I was lambasted by "mmmm can not remember" for forgetting
the vets in WW1 & 2 and Korea for giving me by their dieing the right
to vote in free elections. It is so nice to see today, the vets
being forgotten by the politicians as they race back to Ottawa to
topple the government.... Have they no shame? They point out
exactly why I have no faith in any of them...And both my parents
were vets. Both suffered after the war...Both went through h*ll
afterwards until they died...scared by those events. It sure was
not for the right to vote...It was all about Adolf Hitler and what
he was up to.

Anyway Perry....I hope our conversation leads to people perhaps
in a better postion to ask at their party's HQ...the questions
needing answers..and one should be how to win back the trust
of the electors...and those who do not vote such as I.

If I vote...I would vote from myself to sit as an Independent.

Have a great day ... Hope you get out to celebrate VE day as
I will be doing.

Peter
