JR> Who / what are ROCKWELL/DCD ???

Rockwell/Digital Communications Division. It's a bit of a mouthful to write
out all the time.

JR> Interesting product?? Have you seem our new V.34 Speakerphone Full Duplex

Nope. After conversations with various engineers at various firms across
America, via CompuServe, I am seriously beginning to wonder if there will
be a real market for PSTN modems by 2000-2005 or so. It seems that the
biggest area for analog-type modems will be for cellular telecoms in the
near future, with land-based services dominated by ... other technologies.
I've seen prototypes of a couple of _very_ cheap mass-market devices (about
the same price range as a middle-of-the-road VCR, _after_ profit - the mfg
cost is about $370, retail will be around $600) with PAL/NTSC and SVGA
video output and a data feed which is something like Ethernet, which are
designed specifically for dedicated www access. They have theoretical
1Mbit/s thruputs.

And speaking of products, and service, and other relevant issues, you might
be interested to hear that I've received feedback from several persons over
the past three weeks (resellers) describing Diamond's phone manner as
"very rude", and "constantly pressing to order - 'you want
to place an order ?' 'you want to place an order ?'". These resellers
are now becoming concerned about the quality of support they and their
customers can expect to receive, and you should be aware that it has
undermined the credibility of your product somewhat. These particular
resellers had approached me, originally to ask about various things I used
to sell, but I recommended they call you re modems, as I'm not selling them
on a regular basis at this time, and I knew you were offering attractive
prices. Not a good result.
