| subject: | RE: Election Coming |
-=> Quoting Peter Coggon to Perry Smith <=- PC> Hello Perry; PC> When the title reads "RE: Election Coming" ...it seems PC> that it has changed to a flame on me for not wanting to vote PC> period. Again, that is my decision, and if I can not come PC> to grips with anyone representing my interests, then why bother? -=> Quoting Perry Smith to Peter Coggon <=- PS> Yes I do vote and because I live in a riding that has been Liberal PS> since confederation, my candidate never gets in. But I vote just PS> the same so that I can't complain if taxes are raised by the PS> Liberals, patronage money is doled out to cronies, and a cold PS> shoulder is shrugged at our American neighbours on defence. PC> Whether or not you vote doesn't stop anyone from saying they don't PC> vote, and pointing to taxes being raised anyway...so whats the point? PC> Before you stated that I had no voice if I didn't vote..so if they PC> raise them...we'll say for sake of arguement, then they weren't even PC> interested in hearing me...or anyone else. PC> Patronage money has always been doled out...ever since Confederation. PC> Americans are going to defend the USA even inspite of Canada...? PC> They are going to do whatever to stop threats coming via Canada PC> whether or not I vote...so I can not figure out where this part PC> comes in...except that I speak to enough Americans to have a better PC> input then here in Canada...and I don't vote in the USA either. PS> I will vote again in the next election because it is quite possible PS> that we will have a minority Bloc Quebecois government if Quebec PS> turns agains the Liberals "en masse" and the rest of the country PS> don't get behind the one party which is not a splinter group, that PS> being the boys in blue..... PC> This is the only country in the world, that allows the stupidity of PC> this Bloc Quebecois to go on unchecked. And you want me to vote, PC> because every 5 years or so this bunch can holdup the rest of the PC> country to blackmail? Tell them as I do....I'm saving the Canadian PC> Tire Money for them as currency...Leave! Separate! Bye! PS> Would you prefer the Bloc to the Bay Street Boys? PC> I care to see progress! The Bloc is only in Quebec, along with PC> their "language police" and whatever...and I don't care whether they PC> stay or go...but don't hold us all ransom. NO the word is blackmail. PC> "Distinct Society" phooey... I would vote if they let the rest of PC> the country vote on their blackmail every few years. As for the PC> bay street boys...well they flop tory or grit with any program they PC> want for the slobs of the land. Perhaps no pensions, or no medicare PC> or whatever will be proposed by either the torys or grits to get PC> the Bay Street money....but to compare them...well..what can I say? PC> Canada was only started out of absolute fear of an American post PC> Civil War attack due to Britain's support of the Conferate States. PC> I look at the stats of voter turnout in Canada...and I see that PC> most voting citizens of Canada did not vote...and as it was covered PC> in the media there is no point in going over old stuff. PC> If Harper and his friends bring down the Liberal minority without PC> thinking about the polls and the Canadian Public not wanting a PC> election so soon, then he might find himself worse off. I wonder PC> while doing the polls..if the pollsters ask those they polled... PC> If they voted in the last election? I wonder how many of the 70% PC> who didn't vote figured in the poll that was on the news? PC> Perry you will have to call the polling companys to make sure they PC> don't ask non-voters like me. PC> Your turn! First of all you shouldn't interpret my disagreeing with your views as a flame. I don't interpret your disagreeing with me that way anyway. I can't change your opinion about voting but I still think it is the only way that we can voice our opinion, other than in Fidonet echo that nobody reads or takes seriously if they do. I mentionned that I live in solid Liberal riding but that doesn't stop me from marking my "X" and walking away from the polls believing that I just did something that counted. On another note, what is the percentage of Canadians who actually get out to vote? Not bloody high so whoever gets in, gets in by the will of the majority of the minority. You are definitely in with the majority of Canadians.
