subject: FORMING CANOPIES

Hello A ...
AW> Has anyone had to form their own canopy by melting tranparent plastic
AW> sheets over a mold? I know there was an article on doing this in a
odel
AW> magazine years ago. I'd like some advice on how it's done and how the
 AW> mold is made.
The best results are acheived by making mold out of hard, compact wood.
Before molding that transparent plastic you have to make that mold REALLY
shine - you color it and than polish that color. You put some engine oil
on it (mold) and start heating plastic. Sorry, I don't have any advices how
to
do that except experimenting. You'll get that feeling soon, so that won't be
the problem. Anyway - it's not so hard as it seems... BtW - I advise you to
fix that plastic, heat it and then push that shiny mold through it slowly,
thoroughly and carefully. You let it "in" for a few secs and then pull it
out, again slowly and carefully. If you're lucky, you'll have a hell of a
canopy (you can come to Sloveina to see my F16s' canopy) :-)
