You're probably right about the coax Tom. But the main reason for
the coax to have different Z along it's lengt is that the ANTENNA
is not perfectly matched. If you had an antenna with 50 Ohm impedans
and used ordinary 50 ohm coax (RG50 or RG213), it shouldn't matter
where the SWR is checked along the cable. But antennas seldom have
50 Ohm Z, especially if you want to receive/transmit on multiple
frequences with a "high-performance" narrowband antenna.
You probably already knew that, but the info could be new to
