Maybe Motorola could make better margins using their fabrication plants for PowerPC chips, and get a good price on modem chips from AT&T. Further speculating, perhaps AT&T's chipsets for 33.6 kbps operation were at a later stage of production than Motorola's. It'll be interesting to see how long the Premier and 326X series lasts. Some of the 326X series have synchronous operation and synchronous data compression which low end modems lack and niche markets not easily migrated over to other products. For the best possible V.34 operation between a site with ISDN and a remote site without ISDN, the ISDN equipped site should have a 4 wire interface to its V.34 modem (either internally as Ascend presumably does, or by having a 4 wire interface on the ISDN terminal adapter). Four wire analogue operation may also be easier to provide than ISDN for remote sites that do need high speed data operation beyond 7 km from the nearest exchange/RIM/RCM/... --- msgedsq 2.1* Origin: Camelot Swamp MJCNA, Hawthorndene, Sth Australia (3:800/812) SEEN-BY: 50/99 78/0 620/243 623/630 624/300 711/401 409 410 413 430 510 808 SEEN-BY: 711/809 899 932 934 712/515 713/888 714/906 800/1 2 409 414 415 422 SEEN-BY: 800/427 442 448 449 451 805 806 809 810 812 814 816 822 841 843 846 SEEN-BY: 800/858 850/100 7877/2809 @PATH: 800/812 1 711/808 809 934 |
