ML> EV> The latest question I'd like an answer to is:

ML> EV> My Local Area Connection Status IP ADDRESS changes from
  > EV> 192.168.1.100 to some other address such as 192.168.1.106.

ML> EV> Is that something I should be concerned about?

ML>i wouldn't think so... both are private addresses and are
ML>apparently being given out by a DHCP server on your network unless
ML>you are getting one from another DHCP server on a wifi connection
ML>from somewhere else...

EV> I will have to read the Help to learn more about what DHCP does.

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is an autoconfiguration
protocol used on IP networks.

DHCP is what assignes machines their IP address so they can communicate on
the network... DHCP also generally tells them the gateway address to send
traffic to that is destined for machines outside of their local network...
additionally the DHCP can also give them the DNS server addresses to use
for performing domain name lookups to get the IP for the connection...

EV> Now for My 2nd attempt at getting a RASPBERRY from You.

hahahaha...

EV> I look at the LED Display on the Linksys BEFSX41 Wired Router and
EV> notice that sometimes when I am using this XP box and also have the
EV> Vista box turned ON (but not being used a that moment) that those
EV> two LEDs will Blink but the WAN LED doesn't blink.

right...

EV> My guess is that "THEY" are talking to each other for some reason,

yes... most likely they are taling NETBIOS to each other and keeping up
with if the other machine(s) are still online... NETBIOS is a very chatty
protocol and the machines using NETBIOS will hold elections everyonce in a
while to select which one of them will be the master domain browser and
tell the other ones what is where and which machines offer which
services...

EV> Do You have any suggestions for a Web Site (or even the XP or
EV> VISTA Help&Support section) where I could read and learn about why
EV> I see those two LEDs blinking?

the best thing would be to read about basic networking to get the
fundamentals and then work up to the other protocols that travel on the
wires... back before TCP/IP became prevelent, NETBIOS was one of the most
common forms of networking... these days NETBIOS travels on top of TCPIP
but it can still travel on the same wires without being carried in TCPIP
packets...

i don't know of any particular web site to recommend, though...

 EV> Thanks Again In AdVANCEd.

you are welcome as always :)
