DH> DH> I run FD 2.12. My SupraFaxModem 28.8 external with the upgraded
DH> DH> datapump and the -22 ROM version has started to act weird. Often,
DH> DH> when the modem dials out and gets a busy signal it won't drop
DH> DH> carrier. The 'OH' light on the modem display goes off the line
DH> DH> remains open. Manually sending the onhook command doesn't work
...
DH>I found out a little more info that is really strange.
DH>I have two lines at the house, a BBS and a voice line.
DH>When my SupraFaxModem 28.8 is hooked up to my BBS line, it will not
DH>disconnect the line when either dropping DTR or sending the ATH0 string.
DH>When my SupraFaxModem 28.8 is hooked up to my voice line, it does
isconect
DH>the line when it recieves the ATH0 string.
DH>My SupraSonic 33.6 will disconnect either line when recieving the ATH0
DH>string.
DH>I tested it using a comm program by connecting a telephone to the modem
nd
DH>then sending the ATH1 string to the modem to take the line off-hook. I
DH>waited until I got the obnoxoius beeps then sent the ATH0 string. I then
DH>could pick up the reciever of the phone and see if I was still getting
DH>beeps, or a dial-tone.
DH>The SupraSonic worked fine. The SupraFaxModem failed to disconnect the
line
DH>on every test with the BBS line, and did just fine on the voice line. I
DH>tested it using both comm ports to make sure it wasn't a port related
DH>problem.
DH>I'm stumped... any ideas? Could the telephone line be the problem? Why
DH>would one modem work on both lines and another modem only work on one?
I don't know whether the SupraFaxModem 28.8 has a solid-state relay or a
reed relay but it sounds like it is failing due to excessive line
current (reed relays are prone to "stick" when the reeds become
magnetised due to excessive current and semi-conductor junctions
"breakdown" (and may eventually melt causing a short-circuit) if
subjected to excessive current)
