I've been reading some of the post on antennas and I
have a couple of quick questions and a commit or two.
First off are the long whip antennas (I think they are
102") really that much better then the "regular" CB
antennas?
Most of the long whips I've seen are tied down. Does
this affect their transmitting range or direction?
Now for the commit. I have never used anything but mag
mounts and I have only had two major incidents. One
was a Radio Shack "scanner" antenna. It was sucked off
when I meet an 18 wheeler on a two lane road and there
was a hard wind blowing.
The second was when I had a Wal Mart CB antenna that I
was going to remove but forgot. I had the cord wrapped
around the base coil and left the antenna sitting on
the slopped part of the roof.
There have been several times when I have knocked over
the antennas when I went under a 'low bridge', always
at slow speed. To me this is a good think. I hate to
think what kind of damage would have been done to
either the antenna or the roof if the antenna had be a
permanent mount.
