Hi Debby
How long have you owned Smokey and how old is he? Do you know if he has
ever foundered? I can't remember what part of the country you are in
but both extremely dry and extremely wet weather conditions can both
cause hoof problems. If this is a reoccuring problem with Smokey and
shoes seem to remedy it, I think I would check out his environmental
conditions and see if I could find "the culprit" there.

Understood :) However, it's hard to think of 98 as very cool. Perhaps
because we have had so much humidity this year that I've almost forgotten
what it's like without it. I'm glad the vitamins are helping. I know
I had a compound fracture of the arm once after a bad fall from a horse.
It was set with plates and screws and I thought the darn thing would never
heal. An old chiropractor put me on massive doses of Vitamin C and
Calcium and it started healing within a week. Sure made a believer out
of me.

How about the other horse? A lot of people around here won't give strangles
vaccine because they claim it can give a horse strangles. I usually give
it to mine as part of their annual shots and I've never had a problem
except for the one time, and like I said before, I really didn't think that
was strangles. (I don't always agree with the vets, and usually, I'm right
... sure hacks them off, too :>)
