I have a pair of sun conures which have provided me with four chicks. The
first two she raised tull three weeks and the other two I removed the eggs
and hatched them in a roll-x incubator. I removed them because three out of
five eggs had broken. One of the two survovors I saved with a little nail
polish on the crack. Even thoug I gave them nekton calcium I guess that I
did not give them enough. The hen had a bit of trauma when she had the sixth
egg almost ready. The male beat her up, no biting, just hitting. Since then
(about three weeks ago) she has had the egg stuck in there. I've lubricated
her vent, held her on top of steam from bloiling water (which works on small
birds) and nothing has come out. Her belly is featherless, therefore I can
see the egg. It appears to have soften up. One more important thing, she can
barely move her feet.
This has me real worried. Is surgery going to be my last resort ? Or is there
anything else that I can try. Now I'm just giving her extra calcium.
