I'm sure your sweetie was about at the end of his rope!  My
relatives have lit into me in front of Tom once too many and
now he's sooo glad they are 1124 miles from us!  Keeps us
from losing our cool too often.
None of my immediate family likes to craft as much as I do,
though Mom loves to sew and is making her double wedding ring
quilt.  But I did get my crafting genes from a family member,
my Aunt Shirley.  She's very talented.  She's crocheted at 
least one of everything that's crochetable, knitted sweaters
till you'd think yarn would come out both of her ears, and
done all kinds of x-xtitch projects and stuff.  She's not as
much into scrapcraft as I am though.  I love to use old 
wallpaper samples and see what I can come up with, or take a
bleach bottle or 2-liter pop bottle and make something out 
of it.  Shirley's into what I would call "more formal crafts."
She prefers to buy her pattern and materials and then make
something.  
My sister isn't crafty at all, but she sure loves the handmade
dishcloths I crocheted her.  She likes things simple so I just
made her off-white ones with a band of one single other color
on each end.  The fancy ones I saved for Mom and for Tom's sis,
who both love the lacy old-fashioned looking things.
Fortunately I can do this because I sure couldn't afford to
buy many presents the past few years!  But I understand what
you mean about your sister.  Good thing she apologized, if
what she said was so awful it could have split up your whole
family!
