WPDOS6.x macros ARE text files. Well, actually,
they are a combinations of text and compiled code.
You write them as pure text files, and they can be
sent over FIDO, etc., as such. When you save them,
they are compiled and the text and compiled versions
are saved together. If they have never been saved by
WordPerfect, they are compiled at the first attempt to
run them. All the average user ever sees is the text
portion. If you save them in ASCII format (for
transmitting over FIDO), all the compiled stuff is gone.
I note that Jerry Stern's GRAPHCAT, a commercial
macro, arrived on disk in compiled version only. This
keeps the user from messing with it, from seeing the
source code, and transmitting it over FIDO, etc.
The point is, no encoding is needed for WPDOS6.x
macro transmissions. No one but pirates would be
transmitting the commercial ones anyway.
Could someone speak about the WPWIN versions?
