Somewhere up there ...
Beyond the clouds...
Beyond the horizon ...
Beyond the cyberspace we've all communicated on
is the Past SysOp of VETLink's 14 and 15: Bob Morris. I will miss him
dearly. He passed away this morning.
Bob was a civilian-type Vietnam veteran - working as a civilian employee in
many parts of Vietnam during some times of fierce and tremendous conflict.
Bob also knew well what "Agent Orange Exposure" meant. From many of the
things he shared with me about his physical condition(s), there certainly
wasn't any doubt. Bob, though, would not file an Agent Orange claim, "That,"
he said, "referring to the claim, is for our veterans."
I can remember well "the great Burger King" conference Bob and I had prior to
Berkshire Veterans' Center's (original name of EVAC) becoming a reality and
his donation(s) to our local (Pittsfield, MA) chapter of Vietnam Veterans' Of
America. The 486 that VETLink #1 now operates off of was a special gift to
me from Bob ... as were hundreds and thousands of hours of 'just plain ol'
bein' a friend' that he and I shared. And Bob and his family thought NOTHING
of going to their nearby VA hospital and bringing home one or more of our
veterans, to share with 'em THEIR home, to help 'em wherever they could.
"VETLink's 14 & 15: Two lines, No Waiting" was one of his favorite taglines.
As VETNet began to grow and a HUB was needed, Bob was right there - and
handled the workload, the set-ups, the communication necessary to make SURE
message traffic through VETNet and to our various VETLink BBSs would flow as
smoothly and interruption-free as possible.

I'll miss you, brother Bob. I'll miss the times we shared so much
concerning the software that you originally got me started on: Phoenix
(then ISIS) and OSIRIS (then LYNX). I'll miss the discussions of how better
we can get and keep the message traffic flowing throughout VETNet; the
discussions about NamVet; the discussions about when/if you were again going
to come to Tampa, FL on one of your horse-trailering trips. I'll miss
buggin' ya, bro', about WHEN you'll be able to jump back into VETNet
full-force again... An' I'll always remember how ya helped one of our
VETLink BBS SysOps ... ALWAYS...
I'll miss ya, Bob Morris ... but I know you're in a more peaceful place now -
a place where, in just moments, you'll see more happiness and things of
wonder than ya did here.

For those of you who wish to send cards, flowers, or even just a note to the
family of one of our fine, fine brothers (please do - Pat and Bob's 14yr old
son would certainly know that part of their loss is shared by Bob's veteran
family), Pat, Bob's wife, has given me permission to share her address...

God bless you all ...

As you can tell, Bob was special to many people in many ways.
Wade
Apologies Dave, I felt that everyone should know a little more about Bob. He
helped everyone and was a guiding force for more than scouts.
