As the intended program is specifically for myself, and a single version of 
Command.com, that shouldn't be a problem.

Not a bad idea, except that would mean a TSR which must be loaded before 
starting the primary batch file. While a perfectly viable way to do it I 
would prefer not to load yet another TSR. OTOH, I'll keep the idea in mind in 
case all else fails. ;-)
