SL> [Thus spake Rod Speed unto Sunny Leung:] SL> BTW, we don't have caller ID in Australia, do we? RS> Its imminent, Distinctive Ring ditto. SL> Is the Australian/Austel implementation SL> of caller ID similar to the one in the US? They havent said so completely unambiguously that I have seen, but it does appear that it will be the same as the US system. SL> If it is, then adapting (or nobbling, if you're SL> into conspiracy theory ) the Courier code to SL> Australian conditions shouldn't be too difficult. Yeah, quite a few US modems do support CID and it should be easy enough to use it here. Presumably the local modems with rockwell chipsets also will enable that capability if its not already enabled. Tho god knows what the Coalition win has done to the timetable. They made some pretty sweeping promised on ISDN and its possible that that may affect the timing of us seeing CID. Even before the change in government, there was a big shakeup of Austel planned and presumably Alston will shake even more vigorously and it may well be that they dont have time for CID any time soon. OTOH they might see it as a way do demonstrate how efficient they are by doing it quickly to justify their own existence too. Interesting times. @EOT: ---* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/809 934 |
