I have no doubt that your batteries got better. But I am not sure why!

I have to say, that if it was suited to improve acid batteries then the Navy,
phone companies and generating stations would be using it. When that happens
then I'll use it also. Keep us informed!
One of the "patent" remedies that was pushed many years ago, was analysed by 

suspicious [doubting] lab who reported, that it was principally sulphuric
acid and quite harmless to a battery. And for an OK battery, quite useless.
But for an abused battery ie one that had lost acid thru spillage, the
additive at least restored the SG of the electrolyte to some degree and would
thus be helpful.
With adequate care [eg Navy, Phone Co] no spillage occurs anyway. Maybe yours
were too dilute thru spillage??  Cheers....ALEC
