I'm not sure this is the totaly the aproriate echo for this thread the way
its headed, but here is my 2 cents worth any way. =)
It sounds to me so far that the best idea is to make a reader program that
uses the Internet standard.  I'm not totaly sure Jeff will be up to
changing MBBS but he still has .Qwk.  So what about .Qwk, Blue Wave and
what not?  Thats where we'll have to commision a wizard of mailer standards
to make a small conversion utility to convert what-ever packet to Internet
style text and back.  The reader can then do all the front end work with
the Internet style messages and run the converter if need be.
As to using compression utilities.  When its done on a Unix systems and
such its usualy only used for convenience.  ei. to combine many files into
one, since on most Unix type systems the hard drives are always compressed.
Kinda like running double space. =)  And for the tranfers the modems and
tranfer protocals also compress and a pre-compressed file only slows these
down.
The ideas above are only worth 2 cents, so you can be asured your getting
what you pay for. ;b
